Viber Coming To Android In March

Viber launched the app for the iPhone last month. Built to allow 100% free VoIP calls over 3G and WiFi. Vibers main drawback, at this point, is that it’s only available for iOS. As it’s built only for Viber-to-Viber calls, that meant the free calling goodness was limited to others rockin’ an iPhone or iPod Touch. Viber promised an Android app was on the way.

According to MobileCrunch, they received a handful of tips indicating that Viber was planning on releasing their Android port come March. MobileCrunch also reached out to Viber founder Talmon Marco, which he confirmed. Marco added the app is “almost development complete”. In other words, it’s just about time to bring in the first batch of users for testing. Expect to hear more about Viber’s Android plans next week.

Can't wait for it to hit Nokia too, like what Whatsapp did. (Yes I know people who are still clinging to Nokia.)

If it hits Blackberry too, then that would be a real treat!

  2. I would've cared about this if I had the nexus s 🙁

Ordered it 3 times online but always gets canceled 🙁

  3. Ahmed Al Musallam: Nokia’s Symbian OS is as important as the Android.. So I think they'll have to make one for Symbian's 🙂

  4. Didn't Nokia stop using Symbian after Nokia 900? or did they go back to it?

Or did I confuse this with something else? ;p

  6. Hi everyone,
This is a representative of Viber Media.

First – thanks for the review, and for your comments.

I'd like to add that a free SMS service will be added to Viber later this month, and it will already be included in the upcoming Android version.

Regarding your questions – Viber versions for Blackberry and Nokia are also on our list of development, but we still don't have exact dates yet.

If you have any questions – feel free to ask!
    Thanks,
    Viber.

  7. Thanks for sharing this valuable information with us. I just hope it doesn't take more than March to release it 🙂

  8. uhh everytime someone is posting about viber, it doesnt need much time for a viber pr guy posting a comment. thats probably a good thing, but i would prefer more developers and less pr to get that android version finally out to the people.

  9. Anonymous – I'm not sure I understand your meaning.

When I say I'm here to answer any questions – I mean it. We are a company, and obviously I work very closely with our Dev team. The information I give you as, obviously, been coordinated with them.

  10. Viber: Thanks again for taking the time to answer our questions my friend.. I just need a favor from you. Can you notify me (hours – days) before it gets released on market store? 🙂

  11. I will make sure to send you updates of our latest news. It is hard for me to guarantee that that info would be exclusive (meaning – first), as the company's policy is to only release important news through the "official" channels. But make sure you will know about big updates as soon as they are released on the web.

In order for this collaboration to take place, please contact me via mail, and we will stay in touch there.

    Viber.
