Astronomers Unveil a 46-Gigapixel Image of Space

Large Space Image

Astronomers at Germany’s Ruhr-Universität Bochum have created the largest astronomical image of space to date. The image is composted from some 268 individual shots captured over the past five years and spans a staggering 46 billion pixels, or 46 gigapixels. That’s 855,000 by 54,000 pixels.

The university has created an online viewer to explore the 197 GB, you can check it out for yourself here.
