The Giant Magellan Telescope will be the biggest Earth-based optical telescope ever built, planned for completion in 2025. It will be able to produce spectacular images, 10 times sharper than those captured by Hubble Space Telescope.

Built high in the mountains of northern Chile in Las Campanas Observatory, the GMT—whose primary optics consist of 7 separate 8.4 m (27.6 ft) diameter mirrors. The telescope is expected to cost more than $1 billion after its completed. Watch the video below.
