Bicycle Superhighway in Germany

Germany Bicycle Highway

In Germany, cyclists are getting their own highway, fully segregated from motor traffic for the first time. The country has recently opened the first 5 kilometer (3 mile) stretch of a bicycle highway that will eventually span over 100 kilometers (62 miles).

The car-free highway will connect 10 cities including Duisburg, Bochum and Hamm. It will be built along abandoned railroad tracks in Ruhr industrial region. Legislation has been proposed to get 180 million euros ($196 million) from the federal government to fund the entire route.
