Tourists could soon use their fingerprints as currency in Japan

The Japanese government will launch a new system that enables tourists to use fingerprints to verify their identities and to purchase goods and services.

According to Japan News, Over 300 souvenir shops, restaurants, hotels and other establishments have signed up to participate in the experiment.

Set to be tested this summer, the fingerprint system is part of the government’s efforts to increase the annual number of foreign tourists to 40 million by 2020 for the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.
