A drunken Chinese man who was shot at point-blank range in a restaurant survived because the bullet wedged in his smartphone that was in his shirt pocket.
Han Peng, 47, was with friends in the northern Taiwanese city of Hsinchu when he got into a fight with another customer and was fired at. The situation quickly escalated into a punch-up when Hsu Shen, 48, saw one of Han’s friends trying to pick up his wallet and use the money to pay for their own drinks.
Han was taken to hospital after the fight to be treated. The lucky survivor suffered a bruise and a small cut in his chest because the bullet was stopped by the Samsung Galaxy smartphone.
The shooter ran off after the incident but later turned himself in together with the handgun.
