The British police force has unveiled the world’s fastest police car to help crack down on speeding cars.

Avon and Somerset Police are using the 350bhp Ariel Atom as part of a campaign to break down barriers with motorists and spread a road safety message. The vehicle will be exhibited at roadshows across the southwest this summer.

The vehicle, which looks more like a Formula One racing machine that will beat just about anything in the world on the track. It boasts some impressive performance numbers, such as the 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) run in 2.5 seconds and 0-100 mph (0-161 km/h) in 6 seconds, able to outrun the Lamborghini Aventador and the McLaren MP4-12C for Dubai Police.

The vehicle, which weighs just 612kg and has a top speed of 155mph (250 km/h), will not be used in high-speed chases.
