The elevator by Kone will use high-tech carbon fibre cables, and this UltraRope technology is lighter than conventional steel cable. The new cables were tested in the company’s lab, located in a 333 meters (1.90 ft) mine, and is designed to be resistant to wear and abrasion, reducing repair costs and the time spend out of service.

Kone Arreco has worked on a number of other projects in Saudi Arabia such as Mecca Royal Hotel Clock Tower in Mecca, the King Abdullah Financial District in Riyadh, and the King Abdulaziz International Airport and the Headquarters Business Park in Jeddah.

The skyscraper is intended to be the center piece of the Kingdom City development beside the Red Sea and will have 200 floors, 160 of which would be habitable.
