Red Bull Air Race World Championship 2014 in Rovinj

Peter Besenyei (HUN) - Racon flight

Austria’s Hannes Arch, British pilot Nigel Lamb and Peter Besenyei of Hungary took a recon flight on Thursday ahead of the weekend’s racing, to get a closer look at the breathtaking scenery of the historic town of Rovinj, Croatia, as well as the brand-new Red Bull Air Race World Championship track.

Hannes Arch led the high-speed, low altitude warm-up for the race on the western coast of Istria with his World Championship rivals Nigel Lamb and Peter Besenyei. – as they took the traditional pre-race recon flight on Thursday, ahead of the second stop of the 2014 Red Bull Air Race World Championship on Saturday and Sunday (April 12 and 13).

The three Red Bull Air Race pilots got a spine-tingling glimpse of the new track setup over the Istrian coastline. The fly-by in Rovinj ( also known as the Blue Pearl of the Adriatic Sea) included an aerial inspection of the iconic St. John at Sea lighthouse, a 161-year-old 23-metre high tower perched on a small rocky island.

Arch is a close second behind Britain’s Paul Bonhomme in the championship as the world’s fastest motorsport series comes to Europe after the season opener last month in Abu Dhabi. Rovinj is the second of eight races on the 2014 Red Bull Air Race World Champion race calendar, and the first of three European stops this year.
